About Spheron Network
Spheron Network (SPON) is the native token of the Spheron protocol, used to pay for GPU and compute resource leases that run through escrow-based, time-bound agreements. SPON is used for staking by Provider Nodes so they can bid for deployment orders. It can also be delegated to providers, with rewards shared based on delegation amounts and with delegation affecting provider tiering and selection. The protocol describes rewards paid in SPON to encourage uptime and participation and penalties where staked or delegated SPON plus accrued rewards can be slashed under defined conditions such as downtime during an active lease or rule violations. The fee model also treats payments made in SPON differently from payments made in other tokens.
- Paying for compute deployments: Users lock funds in an escrow smart contract wallet for a chosen duration. Leases debit escrow over time based on usage and release any remaining funds when a lease closes. SPON can be used as the payment token.
- Protocol fee handling when paying in SPON: The protocol describes a fee model where payments made in SPON are treated differently from payments made in other tokens.
- Provider participation via staking: Provider Nodes stake SPON to take part in bidding for deployment orders and to align incentives with network performance.
