Linea

Linea’s documentation and tokenomics materials describe LINEA as an ecosystem token rather than a gas token or governance token:

• Gas on Linea is paid in ETH, not LINEA.

• Incentives and ecosystem funding: Linea states LINEA is intended to be distributed to users and builders and used to fund ecosystem activity and public goods.

• Burn mechanism funded by net revenue: Linea describes a “dual-burn” approach where, after costs, surplus revenue is burned with a split described as 20% burned as ETH and 80% used to buy and burn LINEA.

• No onchain governance rights (per current docs): Linea’s tokenomics page says LINEA does not include governance rights.

Linea is built by Consensys.

Linea also describes a Linea Association (a Swiss non-profit) and a Linea Consortium involved in executing or managing certain ecosystem decisions and programs, including items referenced in tokenomics materials.
