Kusama

Kusama is used primarily as an experimental environment for developers to trial new blockchain technologies and applications. The network supports the creation and deployment of parachains, which are specialised blockchains that run parallel to the main Kusama relay chain. These parachains can be customised for various use cases, including decentralised finance (DeFi), gaming, social networking, and oracles. Kusama's mainnet, or relay chain, ensures the security and transaction finality of the network, while parachains leverage the relay chain's security and interoperability features​​​.

KSM, the native cryptocurrency of Kusama, plays several roles within the network. It is used for staking by validators and nominators to secure the network, governance by allowing holders to vote on protocol upgrades and changes, and bonding to support the creation and operation of parachains. Additionally, KSM can be traded on various cryptocurrency exchanges and used for transactions within the network​.
