About Bitcoin (Avalanche Bridge)
Bitcoin Avalanche Bridged (BTC.b) is a wrapped Bitcoin token that operates on the Avalanche blockchain, created by Ava Labs in partnership with LayerZero. It enables BTC holders to use their assets within Avalanche’s DeFi ecosystem and across multiple chains including Ethereum and BSC. BTC.b leverages LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) technology for secure, low-cost, and efficient cross-chain transfers without middlechains or trusted validators.
BTC.b enhances blockchain interoperability by allowing Bitcoin to be used across multiple platforms, particularly within Avalanche’s decentralised finance (DeFi) environment. It facilitates fast, low-cost cross-chain transfers of Bitcoin, providing users with opportunities for arbitrage, liquidity provision, and participation in various DeFi applications. As an omnichain token standard, BTC.b reduces security risks associated with traditional wrapped assets by using LayerZero’s OFT (Omnichain Fungible Token) technology. This enables efficient cross-chain token movement without the need for intermediaries like middlechains or trusted validators.
BTC.b was created by Ava Labs, the team behind the Avalanche blockchain, in partnership with LayerZero, which provided the infrastructure for cross-chain messaging and interoperability. The bridge was designed to securely transfer Bitcoin between the Avalanche and Bitcoin networks using advanced technologies, including Intel SGX enclaves, to ensure transaction security and integrity.
