About BOB

BOB (Build on Bitcoin) is the native token of the BOB Hybrid Layer-2 blockchain, which anchors finality to Bitcoin while providing an EVM-compatible smart-contract environment. The token is used for network security through staking and delegation to Hybrid Nodes that handle roles such as Bitcoin finality, bridge operation, block building and gateway solving. BOB also underpins on-chain governance, where token holders or their delegates can vote on upgrades to the chain, bridges, gateway and treasury decisions via the BOB DAO. In addition, BOB serves as a protocol utility token, supporting access benefits, potential discounts and incentive programmes across the BOB gateway, BTC vaults and related DeFi integrations. BOB is developed by a team that includes co-founders Alexei Zamyatin and Dominik Harz.

BOB (Build on Bitcoin) is the native token of the BOB Hybrid Layer-2 blockchain, a network that combines Bitcoin security with an Ethereum-style, EVM-compatible smart-contract environment. The BOB chain anchors finality to Bitcoin while using rollup technology and bridges to connect to Ethereum and other smart-contract networks.

The project aims to act as a “Gateway to Bitcoin DeFi”, allowing users to bring BTC into DeFi while reducing reliance on fully custodial or highly trusted third-party bridges. It offers a BTC gateway, intent-based 1-click swaps into DeFi across multiple chains and BTC-denominated vault products.

BOB is designed around three main roles: security, governance and protocol utility.

1. Network security and staking

BOB can be staked or delegated to Hybrid Nodes that operate key roles in the network:

  • Bitcoin finality providers - BitVM bridge operators - Block builders - Gateway solvers for BTC intents and the multichain gateway Delegations in BOB act as a weighting mechanism to signal which nodes the community supports, linking economic stake to network operation.

In this way, BOB functions as a security and incentive token for the hybrid Layer-2 design rather than only a governance or fee token.

2. Governance

  • BOB token holders can vote directly or delegate their voting power to governance delegates - Governance covers upgrades to core protocol components (the BOB chain, BitVM bridges and the BOB Gateway), treasury spending and other parameter changes - A BOB DAO is planned to be active from the Token Generation Event (TGE), with decisions driven by BOB token votes This makes BOB the main asset for on-chain decision making across the BOB ecosystem.

3. Protocol utility

BOB also has protocol-level utility, which may include:

  • Priority or enhanced access to new BOB features - Possible discounts or benefits within the BTC gateway, vaults or DeFi integrations - Use in ecosystem incentives such as staking programmes or rewards, alongside BTC and other assets While BTC is central for user-facing products (BTC vaults, BTC intents), BOB is used to coordinate, govern and incentivise the BOB network itself.

BOB is developed by the BOB team (often referred to as BOB Labs or bob-collective). Two key technical founders are widely associated with the project:

  • Alexei Zamyatin – co-founder and CEO of BOB (Build on Bitcoin) and co-author of the “BOB: The Hybrid L2” vision paper. - Dominik Harz – co-founder and CTO of BOB and co-author of the hybrid L2 and BitVM-related research that underpins the design. The Hybrid L2 vision paper lists Zamyatin and Harz as authors, which supports their role in defining the core architecture of the BOB chain and its Bitcoin-anchored rollup model.

The broader BOB team includes contributors across protocol engineering, research and business development, with backing from a range of venture and strategic investors, according to public fundraising disclosures.
