Affordable Transaction Fees: Blockchain transactions can often come with costly fees. NEAR keeps these costs low so users don't have to worry about paying fees on every transaction they make. Instant Finality: NEAR transactions are finalized once they're confirmed, so you don't have to wait long periods of time to receive your transactions. High Throughput: NEAR boasts a high transaction-per-second throughput which ensures its network rarely experiences congestion. Scalability: NEAR Protocol was built to be able to scale efficiently. This will allow the platform to support the large amounts of transactions it will process as it grows. Resistance to Sharding: Sharding is a scalability solution that splits up a blockchain into smaller pieces called "shards." Each shard is responsible for processing its own transactions and storing its own data. NEAR Protocol is what's called "sharding ready." This means it's architected in a way that will allow for the network to integrate sharding once it matures as a scalability solution. This will allow NEAR to handle even more transactions at even greater speeds.

The name of the game is accessibility. Accessibility because what stops most people from truly caring about most blockchains isn't fees or congestion. It's just too confusing, plain and simple. The Restaurant Kitchen That Explains NEAR's Sharding

A simple analogy makes sharding easier to understand. Imagine that a blockchain is a kitchen. A traditional blockchain would be equivalent to a kitchen that only allows 1 cook to take orders at a time. Customers (Transactions) can only speak to 1 cook at a time. Each new customer has to wait for the current order to finish cooking before the cook can take their order. There is always a huge line. Food gets cold waiting. This is Bitcoin. What makes NEAR's sharding different from say, Cosmos' sharding, is that with Nightshade each shard processes a partial version of every block. These partial blocks, or "chunks", are combined to create the finalized block on the main chain. Because of this, NEAR can process many shards at once, without any individual shard having to store the entire state of the network. Okay, but you promised this would be easy to understand.
