About Unichain Mainnet

Unichain Sepolia is a testnet for Unichain, an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution designed for decentralised finance (DeFi). Built on the OP Stack and part of the Superchain, it uses optimistic rollup technology to offer faster, low-cost transactions while maintaining Ethereum's security. Key features include Verifiable Block Building, developed with Flashbots to reduce MEV risks, and the Unichain Validation Network (UVN) for decentralised block validation. Unichain Sepolia supports cross-chain swaps, smart contract testing, and EVM compatibility, making it ideal for DeFi developers. Created by Uniswap Labs with contributions from Flashbots and OP Labs, it’s open-source under the MIT license.

Unichain Sepolia serves multiple purposes as a development and testing network tailored for the Unichain mainnet launch. It provides a sandbox environment for developers to explore Layer 2 scaling and DeFi infrastructure improvements.

  • DeFi Protocol Development: Developers can test decentralised exchanges (DEXs), lending platforms, and liquidity provision mechanisms on a low-cost and scalable network. It enables testing of Uniswap's various versions (v2, v3, v4) and liquidity management contracts under real conditions.

  • Cross-Chain Liquidity Testing: Unichain Sepolia is designed to facilitate seamless cross-chain swaps between Ethereum and other L2 chains within the Superchain network. It natively supports the ERC-7683 standard, allowing single-block message passing and reducing liquidity fragmentation across multiple chains.

  • Smart Contract Deployment and Testing: Unichain Sepolia maintains full EVM compatibility, enabling developers to deploy and verify smart contracts using Ethereum-native tools such as Foundry, Hardhat, and OpenZeppelin.

  • Transaction Efficiency and MEV Protection: The integration of Flashblocks provides near-instant transaction confirmations while reducing arbitrage inefficiencies and minimising the impact of maximal extractable value (MEV) attacks. The trustless revert protection ensures users do not pay for failed transactions.

  • Node Operation and Decentralisation Testing: Node operators can experiment with running Unichain Sepolia nodes using the OP Stack infrastructure, preparing for participation in the mainnet. The Unichain Validation Network (UVN) allows validators to stake tokens and contribute to network security and finality testing.

Unichain Sepolia was developed by Uniswap Labs, with collaboration from Flashbots and OP Labs.

Key contributors include: - Hayden Adams (Uniswap Labs) – Founder and project lead - Mark Toda (Uniswap Labs) – Protocol development - Alex Karys (Uniswap Labs) – Smart contract engineering - Xin Wan (Uniswap Labs) – Scaling and infrastructure - Daniel Gretzke (Uniswap Labs) – EVM compatibility - Eric Zhong (Uniswap Labs) – Developer tools and integration - Daniel Marzec (Flashbots) – MEV protection and Flashblocks - Robert Miller (Flashbots) – Trusted execution environments (TEE) integration - Karl Floersch (OP Labs) – Rollup infrastructure and OP Stack contributions - Dan Robinson (Paradigm) – Cross-chain interoperability research Unichain Sepolia is an open-source project under the MIT license, encouraging community collaboration and public contribution. Uniswap Labs remains a core developer on the OP Stack and provides grants and support to developers building on Unichain Sepolia. The codebase, including the Unichain node software and Flashblock builder, is publicly accessible for transparency and further decentralisation.
