SAPIEN underpins the economic and coordination layer of the Sapien protocol.

• Staking: contributors stake SAPIEN as collateral to access tasks. The amount and duration of staking are used to gate task complexity and influence reward conditions. - Rewards: contributors and validators earn rewards for completed and approved work. Rewards can be configured as a mix of SAPIEN and stablecoins such as USDC. - Quality enforcement: completed work is peer-reviewed. Poor-quality or malicious behaviour can lead to penalties, including slashing of staked SAPIEN and restrictions on future participation. - Reputation and progression: performance history and peer feedback, combined with staking requirements, determine contributor roles and access to higher-responsibility tasks. - Governance direction: Sapien outlines a gradual transition towards token-holder governance via a DAO, covering protocol parameters, treasury decisions, and the approval of new task categories.

Sapien was co-founded by Trevor Koverko (CSO), Kelly Ryan (CTO), and Henry Chen (COO), with Rowan Stone serving as CEO.
